The three types of ostomy are colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy. A colostomy diverts the colon (large intestine) to an opening in the abdomen, an ileostomy diverts the ileum (end of the small intestine), and a urostomy diverts urine away from the bladder. Each type is performed for different medical reasons to allow waste to exit the body.
